Slack, Discord and Microsoft Teams

Send a message to a Slack, Discord or Teams channel when a post is published, fails or gets scheduled. The whole team sees what went out without opening ShortSync, and a failed post doesn't go unnoticed.

Slack and Discord

  1. In ShortSync, go to Settings > Integrations, find Slack, Discord and Teams and click Add channel.
  2. Pick Slack or Discord and choose which updates to send.
  3. Click Add to Slack or Add to Discord, pick the channel on Slack's or Discord's own screen and click Allow (Authorize on Discord). You land back in ShortSync with the channel added.

ShortSync only gets permission to post messages to that one channel. If you'd rather make the webhook yourself, choose Or paste a webhook URL: in Slack it's an app with Incoming Webhooks on, in Discord it's Server Settings > Integrations > Webhooks > New Webhook.

Microsoft Teams

  1. In Teams, open the channel's ⋯ menu and choose Workflows.
  2. Pick Post to a channel when a webhook request is received, name it and finish the steps.
  3. Copy the webhook URL Teams shows at the end.
  4. In ShortSync, go to Settings > Integrations, click Add channel, pick Teams and paste the URL. Teams has no sign-in button: Microsoft only offers that to apps installed through its own store.

What the messages say

  • Post published: the platform, the start of the caption and a link to the live post.
  • Post failed: the platform, the caption and why it failed, after ShortSync's own retries.
  • Post scheduled: the platform and when it goes out, shown in each reader's own time zone.

Each message names the workspace and links back to your ShortSync library. Use Send test message in the channel's ⋮ menu to check the setup.

Good to know

  • Channels are set per workspace. Add a different channel to each client's workspace if you manage several.
  • Owners, admins and members can add channels; clients can't.
  • If Slack, Discord or Teams says the webhook no longer exists (it was removed or the channel archived), ShortSync turns that channel off and shows why. Add the channel again to start over.
  • Notification channels are separate from Discord as a place to publish: a Discord account under Connections posts your content, a Discord notification channel tells the team what went out.
  • Treat the webhook URL like a password: anyone with it can post to the channel.
  • Want to do more than send a message? Use webhooks with Zapier, Make or n8n.
