Text-only Fallback

Some platforms heavily compress uploaded videos, reducing quality. With text-only fallback, ShortSync posts just your caption as a text post on those platforms instead of uploading a compressed video. This applies to video uploads only — image posts are always posted normally.

How It Works

1

Enable Text-only Fallback in settings

Go to Settings and toggle on Text-only Fallback under Upload Preferences.

2

Upload a video as usual

Select your video and choose the platforms you want to post to.

3

Incompatible platforms show "Text only"

Per-platform toggles appear in the platform settings during upload. Enable "Post as text only" for any platform where you want to skip the video and post just the caption.

4

Publish as usual

ShortSync will upload the video to compatible platforms and post only the caption on the text-only fallback platforms.

Example

You upload a 3-minute video and select YouTube, Instagram, X, and Bluesky:

  • YouTube— Video posted normally
  • X— Caption posted as text (avoid heavy video compression)
  • Bluesky— Caption posted as text (avoid heavy video compression)

Supported Platforms

Text-only fallback is available on platforms that support text posts:

X (Twitter)X (Twitter)
BlueskyBluesky
ThreadsThreads

Note: Text-only fallback is currently available for X, Bluesky, and Threads. Other platforms (YouTube, TikTok, Snapchat, Instagram, Facebook) are not supported.

Images are not affected: Text-only fallback only applies to video uploads. When posting images, the image will always be included normally — the text-only toggle is not shown for image posts.

When Is This Useful?

  • A platform heavily compresses your video and you prefer to post just the caption instead
  • You want to maintain a consistent posting schedule across all platforms without sacrificing video quality
  • You want to tease video content with a text post and link back to the full video on another platform
